The sales of Canadian fresh food, mostly seafood,  skyrockets by over 400% on JD platform. And the government tends to further cooperate with the e-commerce company in its export to China.

Recently François-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, has paid a visit to JD and talked to the group’s vice president, the manager of its fresh food unit, the CEO of Export Development Canada and the country’s ambassador to China. They have exchanged ideas about future cooperation between Canada and this e-commerce company in China. And both parties have reached some agreement about Canada’s fresh food export to China and their sales. JD will cooperate with Canadian local companies directly after the government’s recommendation. And the fresh food will be flown to China and sold on the JD platform.

Back in 2016, the representatives of JD fresh food unit have flown to Canada to check local companies and food for several times. And they have also worked with Canadian embassy in China to host a series of promotion activities of the northern prawns. Wang, the group’s vice president and the president for its fresh food unit, has gone to such provinces as Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to negotiate with locals about the import of Canadian lobsters and other fresh food.

As the data show, China’s import of Canadian lobsters has been on continual rise within the past few years. The import value reaches about C$76.6 million in 2014, which balloons by 81% from that of 2013. The stock keeping unit number of Canadian fresh food exceeds 450 on the JD platform. They include seafood, frozen food, eggs, poultry, fruit, etc. The sales volume of these fresh food raises greatly by over 400% in 2016. And such products as lobsters, black cod and Arctic Surf clams are widely received among consumers, according to the statistics. JD is equipped with its own purchasers and cold chain logistics and able to sell directly to end consumers. This helps cut the import prices of fresh food and benefits individual consumers.
