According to Ecuador’s media, the country’s export value of large shrimps has reached $1.59 billion USD during the first half of 2018, while its export volume has been 539 million pounds.China has purchased 95.07 million pounds of large shrimp worth $277 million USD. Its export to China has risen by 14 percent compared with the same period last year and it has constituted 18 percent of the country’s total export. Now China has outrun America and become the second largest importer of Ecuador’s large shrimps.

As statistics from the country’s aquaculture association show, Asia is the main market of Ecuador’s large shrimp. In the first half of this year, Ecuador has exported 62 percent of its large shrimps to this region and Vietnam is the largest importer. Its export value to Vietnam has reached $657 million USD, which is 43 percent of its total export, during the first six months of 2018. In the meantime, countries like Spain, Italy, Germany and Greece have expanded their import of large shrimps from Ecuador, and there are new buyers such as Croatia. However, Brazil has stopped its import of large shrimps from Ecuador owing to its inspection and quarantine standards.
