Alf-Helge Aarskog,  the Bergen, Norway-based company’s CEO, told Undercurrent News the plant will be in Shanghai, but declined to give more details. He also declined to give an idea of when the plant might open.

This will be the company’s sixth plant in Asia, adding to its three plants in Japan, two in Tokyo and one in Osaka; one in Seoul, South Korea; and one in Taipei, Taiwan, he told Undercurrent, during the recent North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) in Bergen, Norway.

The plan to process in Shanghai — a city with a population of over 24 million people — comes as direct sales of salmon from Norway to China finally start to increase.
