The area of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta devoted to pangasius farming is up 14% year-on-year to 3,299 hectares, according to Vietnam Net.
Citing the Vietnam Pangasius Fish Association, the website states the largest farming provinces are Dong Thap with 1,200 ha; Ben Tre, with 753 ha; and An Giang, with 589 ha.
So far this year, Vietnam has exported $1.75 billion of pangasius, with China replacing the US as the main market, according to Vietnam Net.
Raw material prices for pangasius are at around VND 28,000, which is the record level high for the last ten years.
